Smoke Gas

Medicvents scavenging improves the air quality without disturbing the surgery.

Smoke Gas

Medicvent offers an integrated smoke evacuation system for laser and diathermy surgery. The air is evacuated from the operating room instead of being filtered and recirculated, which results in significantly better air quality (ScienceDirect EJSO 35 (2009) 780-784).

Surgical smoke, which often arises during laser and diathermy procedures, can be both bothersome and harmful to those in the operating room. To create better air quality, it is crucial to evacuate the smoke from the room rather than filter and return it. With Medicvent’s central evacuation system, it is easy to remove the smoke and ensure a safer working environment.
Medicvent’s central evacuation system is powerful yet quieter than mobile evacuation systems since it is installed outside the operating room. This saves valuable space and prevents air currents above the surgical area that could interfere with the procedure. Learn more about our fan solutions here.
Through an auto-start box, the valve detects when the laser or diathermy pen is in use and automatically opens or closes the scavenging system. The auto-start box with the accompanying on/off valve is rail-mounted and easily positioned on a pendulum or operating table.
The auto-start box is compatible with all existing diathermy machines on the market.
Medicvent’s system features easily replaceable main filters, evacuation hoses, complete sets of disposable pre-filters for laser/diathermy pens, and various “nozzles” designed to get as close as possible to the surgical site. The system meets the requirements of the international standard ISO 16571 for smoke evacuation.”

Smoke from 1 gram of thermally destroyed tissue during diathermy has comparable mutagenic values to the smoke from 6 cigarettes.
