Unlike a single mask, the Double Mask has both an inner and outer mask. The gap between the outer and inner mask ensures efficient evacuation of leaking nitrous oxide.
The main use of the Double Mask is to distribute and evacuate medical gases. The Double Mask captures both the exhaled gas and any leakage between the mask and the patient. This leads to an improved working environment and provides protection for healthcare staff from high levels of harmful gases [1][2][3].
The collected gas is evacuated from the room using the Medicvent Fan Unit or Medicvent Central System, either to the environment outside the hospital or to a nitrous oxide destructor where the gas is destroyed.
The medical gas is supplied to the patient through the connector housing to the mask. Inside the mask, the gas hits a diffuser plate that distributes the gas within the mask. Any gas that leaks out between the mask and the patient is drawn into the gap between the inner and outer mask and transported out through the evacuation hoses. See image.
If a neckband is chosen, the Double Mask can also function as a point exhaust when it hangs around the patient’s neck.
